Former PS Awinia Mushi laid to rest

Hundreds of mourners took part in the burial of the former Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Awinia Abel Mushi, who served under the leadership of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
The late Mushi, who was 73 years old, passed away early this week and was laid to rest on Friday at his home village of Nkuu Sinde, East Machame in Hai District, Kilimanjaro Region.
According to medical reports, he died of heart complications. He also suffered from asthma. He is survived by a widow and four children.
Prayers were held at the Lutheran church in Kisereny, led by Bishop Dr. Martin F. Shao of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Diocese and his counterpart from Arusha Diocese, Bishop Thomas Laizer.
Among the dignitaries who gathered for mourning and the burial were government, and religious leaders from Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions, the Executive Chairman of IPP, Reginald Mengi, friends, relatives and neighbours.
The Regional authorities were represented by the Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Mohamed Babu, Moshi District Commissioner, Alhaji Musa Samizi, Hai DC, Hasna Mwilima, CCM Kilimanjaro regional chairperson, Vicky Nsilo Swai.
In his sermon, Bishop Shao said the late Mushi led an exemplary life, always ready to cooperate with others on various social, spiritual and economic issues.
On his part, Bishop Laizer said the best way to honour the late Mushi was to cherish all that he believed in, which include love for others, war against corruption, dedication to helping others and building a democratic nation.
``The late Awinia Mushi has left behind a clear record of trust in public service.
He refused to take part in corrupt practices and won the confidence of the late President Julius Nyerere who appointed him to various leadership positions. We should learn from him,`` said Bishop Laizer.
