The call was given early this week by the Marketing Manager of Agricom Company from the Southern Highlands regions, Peter Mwita during the ongoing Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition at John Mwakangale Grounds in Mbeya.
Mwita said farming is among sectors that largely contributed to the country’s attainment of the middle economy status hence to ensure farmers remain part of that achievement, an enabling environment for them has to be put in place.
He said among issues that need to be worked upon by the government is to advise financial institutions to have a friendly environment in extending of loans to farmers which can be repaid in time.
“Being among private institutions in the country, we appeal to the government to review the procedures for dispensing loans by financial institutions to remove all conditions that undermine farmers on repayment,” Mwita said.
He said Agricom that deals in selling and distribution of farming equipment has been at the fore front in recognising the plight of farmers by ensuring they sell their farming equipment at affordable prices.
He added that through the Nanenane Exhibition, they sell farming equipment including tractors at reduced price to enable many farmers to purchase.
Some farmers who visited the firm’s pavilion said modern farming equipment have been a savior to them as they simplify agricultural activities from land preparation stage to harvesting.
