Acacia Mining finally announces Deo Mwanyika's exit

ACACIA Mining Plc has announced to its employees that Deo Mwanyika, its erstwhile Vice President of Corporate Affairs, has officially left the company.

Deo Mwanyika.

Mwanyika, who was for many years regarded as the face of the mining giant in Tanzania, has not been seen at Acacia's offices for several months since the emergence of a major tax dispute between the gold miner and the government last year.

"Please be informed that Deo Mwanyika … has taken early retirement and is no longer an employee of the Acacia Group," Acacia's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Peter Geleta, announced in an internal communication seen by the Financial Times.

Mwanyika's position in Acacia Mining was thrown into doubt when the miner announced in February this year that it had appointed Asa Mwaipopo as its Tanzanian Managing Director.
