Airtel Money, DSE team up to allow clients buy shares on handsets

AIRTEL Money subscribers can now buy shares floated at Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange through their mobile phones thanks to a deal between Airtel Tanzania and DSE Plc.

Through DSE’s mobile trading platform called ‘HisaKiganjani’ Airtel Money customers can now open their trading accounts, buy and sell stocks and receive payments using their mobile phones.

Airtel Money Director, Isack Nchunda said in Dar es Salaam yesterday during the launch of the service that the DSE mobile trading platform is a new landmark to improve investors experience. “DSE in collaboration with development partner (FSDT) and the government managed to develop a Mobile Trading Platform. Through MTP Airtel Tanzania as a leading mobile service provider, will offer ‘NunuaHisa’ with Airtel Money,” Nchunda said.

He noted that the telco’s has always been looking for innovative ways to meet growing customer needs in rapidly changing market characterised by the convenience of easing bill payments with instant, secure and borderless mechanisms.

“This agreements means that Airtel Money customers can also participate in initial public offers by using their handsets to buy shares conveniently from anywhere at any time,” he added.

The MTP which is commonly known as ‘HisaKiganjani’ aims to ease investors' transactions when trading in shares and instruments floated at the bourse. “Airtel has always been welcoming such partnerships which add value to Airtel Money customers. ‘We are delighted to enter into partnership with Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange,” the Airtel Money Director stated.

Speaking at the same event, DSE senior official, Ibrahim Mshindo said that the partnership with Airtel Tanzania presents another opportunity to consumers to use technology and invest in profitable stocks listed at DSE.

“The innovation through ‘NunuaHisa’ is expected to increase trading efficiency to existing investors and bring in new investors, who are currently not served due to inaccessibility of the DSE securities trading platform,” Mshindo said.

He added that the DSE mobile trading platform has security features that allow customers to make safe and secure transactions. The “HisaKiganjani” platform has several benefits which include: easy access to products and services, convenience, cost reduction, transparency and investors protection,” he added.
