The United Arab Emirates (UAE) carrier said in a statement that the ap- pointment con rms the airline’s com- mitment to Tanzania. Etihad Airways started operations in Tanzania in De- cember 2015 and Dar es Salaam is its third gateway in East Africa, along with Nairobi and Entebbe.
“Okoromu (pictured) will lead the Abu Dhabi-based airline’s commercial strategy in Tanzania and be responsi- ble for further strengthening Etihad Airways’ partnerships with travel trade partners and corporate customers,” a statement on the new posting reads.
“He moves to the new role in Dar es Salaam from his previous position as Etihad Airways Sales Manager based in Nigeria, where he was responsible for the ongoing development of the airline’s commercial operations across the Sub-Sahara Africa and Indian Ocean regions,” it adds.
Prior to joining Etihad Airways in 2012, Okoromu worked in a number of senior sales related roles for Nigerian- based Aviareps Nigeria Limited and Virgin Nigeria Airways where he de- veloped an in-depth understanding of the business and leisure travel markets across Central Africa.
Commenting on his appointment, Okoromu said he was excited and ready to take on the new role in the country, which he described as a dy- namic market that o ers huge poten- tial for business growth.
Noting that teamwork will be vital in his new assignment, he pointed out that his focus and priority will be on nding new and innovative ways of expanding the carrier’s strategic cor- porate and trade partnerships. Equally important, he added, will be strength- ening of commercial ties and providing guests with Etihad Airways’ world-class service, comfort, and hospitality.
“We are committed to the important Tanzanian market and I am delighted that Ailende will be leading our team in growing our business there. His extensive commercial expe- rience and successful track record in the African aviation in- dustry will be invaluable as he continues to develop awareness of Etihad Airways, making him the ideal candidate for this important position,” the company said in its statement.
