According to a statement issued by Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania Limited, during his visit Winters will meet with various internal and external stakeholders of the Bank in Tanzania with a view of exploring ways in which the Bank can further enhance its business and support economic growth in the country.

Winters was appointed to the Board of Standard Chartered PLC as Group Chief Executive on 10 June 2015, having joined the Group in May 2015. Since he took over the Bank’s leadership, Mr. Winters has reviewed the Bank’s strategy and confirmed the Group’s commitment to Africa.

In November, 2015, Winters announced the Bank’s new strategy aiming to reposition the Bank to weather near-term uncertainties and capture significant underlying opportunities.

The Bank’s Group boss announced that the Bank would invest more than USD3bn over the next three years, confirming Africa as one of the investment priorities. This is a 50 percent increase in the Group’s recent investment spend and the most that the Group has ever invested.

Africa is a key market for the Standard Chartered Group and part of the Bank’s investment announced by Winters will go towards building on the Bank’s differentiating strengths to generate sustainable profits for the long term.

During his visit Winters will be accompanied by the Bank’s Africa and Middle East Region Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Kaushal. In addition to meeting with the Bank’s staff and its customers, Winters and Kaushal are also expected to meet with key Government Officials.
