TARURA constructs building for offices

THE Tanzania Rural and Urban Road Agency (TARURA) in Gairo District, Morogoro Region has freed itself from 5.4m/- annual rent after building its own office.

Since it’s launch the executive agency in the President's Office, Regional Administration and Local government  was the tenant of the Gairo district council and had already parted with 10.8m/- in rent for two years.

In an interview with The Guardian yesterday, Tarura district manager Eng Simon Masala said the decision to build the office was necessitated by limited space in the rented facility.

“A team of more than ten people had to operate in a two-room office space and there was no secure place to keep sensitive public documents,” he said.

Due to the dire situation, the agency allocated some 1.482bn into the project which has been completed, saying bye-bye to the landlord for good.

The manager said agency in the district is now better placed to focus solely on service delivery to wananchi and not other matters such as rent which consumed a lot of time in deliberations before approval and disbursement.

The agency which is famous in construction, hired local contractors to build the office which was completed on time due to close supervision and prompt payments as per the contract, the manager said.

“We now have enough office space, store, a conference room, parking lot and another space for construction of more buildings in the future,” Masala said.

Counting some of the projects already implemented in the district, the manager said the agency has improved 15 street, 19 big bridges and 45 small ones with funding from donors and from the road fund budget.

Gairo district commissioner Siriel Mchembe said that for the expansion of the streets were sensitised on the greater benefits of the infrastructure before they gave up some of the land for the project.

“Unlike other places where acquisitions of land for public projects normally turn chaotic, in Gairo it was very easy because of the sensitisation that took place before the project kicked off,” she disclosed.
