TARURA to spend 1.4bn/- on roads repair in Mwanza

THE Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in Mwanza region has set aside 1.4bn/- for the rehabilitation of dilapidated roads within the city centre.

THE Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA)

According to Tarura manager for Mwanza region Mohamed Muanda, the roads earmarked for repair are Pamba—Thaqaafa—Mkanyenye and Pamba—Rwagasore.

He said the work is expected to start anytime from now since the tendering process had already taken place and a Mwanza-based contractor, Nyanza Road Works awarded the tender.

The repair work is designed to get rid of potholes that have been worsened by recent rains that pounded the city and other parts of the country, leaving behind massive destruction of infrastructure.

“Our agreement with the contractor is that the roads are improved to make them passable throughout the year,” he said.

Muanda also said that works on Machemba road which he noted was also in bad condition, have been scheduled to start in May this year under the Tanzania Strategic Cities Project (TSCP) that is funded by the World Bank.

He said TARURA will continue to respond with speed to calls on damaged roads to ensure that all corners of the region are covered.
