Speaking during the concluded international women’s day celebrations, the women who operate under the umbrella of Chamwino Women’s Entrepreneurship Association also want the government to consider giving them financial support to be able to sustain their agricultural activities which they said are providing livelihood activities to many families in the region.
Association chairperson Ahura Lupia says the group that majors on poultry keeping and livestock rearing has been able to increase the number of poultry and goats but have no markets to sell them. They say they produce milk but have no storage facilities.
According to Lupia, most of the women entrepreneurs have benefited with the poultry and livestock keeping activities as they can afford to take their children to school and meet their family’s daily needs.
She explained that some of their products are sold at cheap prices due to poor packaging adding that if they could be provided with proper packaging materials, they will be able to sell their products in supermarkets and get more profits.
Morogoro legislator, Abood Aziz while congratulating the women for the good work encouraged other women to join the entrepreneur groups to be able to generate income and support their families. He said women play a big role in reducing poverty at family level.
Aziz noted that it was easy for the government to reach out to women who are in groups as opposed to individual entrepreneurs in case of loans and or any support.
