Dawasco pledge 1million new water connections in Dar, Coast by June

Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Corporation (DAWASCO) has vowed it will connect 1million new water customers in Dar es Salaam and the Coast Region by June this year.

The announcement was made over the weekend by Dawasco’s Chief Executive Officer Eng Cyprian Luhemeja, Dawasco’s in a conversastion with the Water and Irrigation Permanent Secretary Eng Mbogo Futakamba.
He said for the year 2016, the company’s plan is to connect the said new customers who already live close to water distribution networks.
“Our second target is all areas where our infrastructures exists but there is no service,” he said.
“This will be areas where there are large water pipelines but no distribution networks,” he added.
He went on to note that the third target for this year are the ‘Chinese pipelines’ but will be dependent on completion of the upper and lower Ruvu water expansion works.
Luhemeja added that the final target focuses on areas where there are no water infrastructures at all.
He however said the company has managed to reduce water leakages from 62 to 45 per cent and subsequently raising revenues to 6.2 to 2.9bn/- per month.
Eng Futakamba on his part expressed satisfaction with the ongoing expansion works. He even said complaints from water users in the city are decreasing owing to improved service delivery.
He challenged the utility firm to uphold best practices and continue improving services to its customers.
