6,500youth to meet in Arusha for the 5th East African Youth Leadership

A TOTAL of 6,500 youth from 20 countries in Africa are expected to meet in the 5th East African Youth Leadership Summit aimed at, among other things, crafting responses to Africa’s rapidly growing population.

The forum is jointly organised by the East African Community (EAC) in collaboration with the MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation and is expected to take place from the 8th to 12th November, 2021.

Since 2017, the two organisations and other partners through their youth engagement initiatives – the EAC Youth Ambassadors Platform and YouLead Africa – Africa Youth Leadership Program respectively have jointly convened the annual YouLead Summit.

The climax event is now East Africa’s largest and most diverse forum of young leaders bringing together mentors, government policy makers, development partners, private sector and academia. It also involves the media and civil society.

The summit will be held under “The Future of Africa: Creating Jobs, Feeding, and Housing the World’s Youngest Continent” as a hybrid event with several speakers and a limited audience at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, in compliance with COVID-19 guidelines, and beamed virtually to thousands of participants.

The summit is convening for the 5th edition and will highlight the importance of collaborative efforts to boost investment and trade for Africa’s burgeoning youth population.

The summit’s co-conveners are former president Jakaya Kikwete, who is also YouLead’s Patron, and Dr Peter Mathuki, the EAC Secretary-General and the East African Business Council, the region’s apex private-sector apex organization.

It is expected that the summit will also feature other Heads of State, eminent leaders, government representatives and private sector representatives from across the region.

“I invite all East Africans and friends of East Africa to the YouLead Summit 2021. This year’s theme resonates well with the six leading UN Sustainable Development Goals,” said Dr. Mathuki in a video message.
