Teacher gets 30 years in jail for raping girl

A TEACHER at Shinji primary school in Ileje District, Songwe region has been sentenced to 30 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane for raping a 16- year’s old girl.

Abed Rajab Mbuba (54) a resident of Mbebe ward was sentenced by the Ileje District Court after being found guilty of raping the teenage girl in the district.

Giving the ruling, magistrate for the court,  Shughuli Mwampashi said the accused committed the offence in July 2019 at Shinji, while having in mind that doing so was against section (1), and (2) (e) of the  Penal Code and section 131.

Mwampashi said the court after listening to the two sides was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced the accused to serve 30 years in jail as a lesson to other people with such behaviours.

The magistrate said the accused committed the offence under section 130 (1) (2) so that it offers a lesson to other young men with such behaviours.

Earlier, State prosecutor Peter Mrisho urged the court to deliver a severe punishment  so that it gives a lesson to other  people with such behaviours in Ileje where he said the situation  was becoming   worse.

In his defense, before magistrate Mwampashi the accused said he has a family to feed and requested the court  to forgive him.
