Addressing journalists at the central police station yesterday, acting Regional Police Commander, Jerome Ngowi said they are also holding the lorry driver, Rabdi Ramadhani (48) a resident of Unga Limited in Arusha Region.Ngowi said the aliens were nabbed at a road block near Gari Jembe village along the Tanzania-Malawi highway.“The illegal migrants were hidden in a Scania lorry; police stopped the vehicle for normal inspection before they realised the presence of some people in the vehicle,” he said noting the driver had earlier told the police officers that he was transporting assorted shop commodities to Malawi.He said the driver attempted to offer 3,000,000/- bribe the police officers but they refused to receive the money.The RPC added that after interrogations, the driver said he was to leave the foreigners at the Kasumulu town in Kyela District. Kasumulu is geographically located near the Tanzania-Malawi border.The aliens according to RPC Ngowi were in bad health as they had travelled for a long distance without food. He said the lorry had no ventilaions would have hence suffocated.He called upon vehicle owners to careful monitor their drivers because other vehicles are not for human trafficking. 51 illegal migrants of Ethiopian origin arrested in Mbeya - RPC
POLICE in Mbeya Region on Monday arrested 51 Ethiopian nationals en route to neighboring Malawi using a lorry with registration number T 509 AZZ.
