CAG’s 1.5trn/- audit query rages on

SPEAKER of the National Assembly Job Ndugai has threatened to summon Kigoma Urban legislator Zitto Kabwe (ACT-Wazalendo) to the Parliamentary Privileges, Ethics and Powers Committee accusing him of repeatedly making false claims that the House has failed to act on the Controller and Auditor General.

SPEAKER of the National Assembly Job Ndugai

Ndugai said that Zitto has been deceitful by publishing the matter through a social network (Twitter). He said the MP had on January 8th 2019 wrote on his Twitter account that the Office of the Speaker had not acted on the CAG report which was submitted to him.

“He is a liar. I received the CAG report on January 16th, 2019 and gave it to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which is responsible for oversight of the central government,” the Speaker declared, calling upon the legislator to stop destroying the Speaker’s public image.

He warned that if Zitto continues to share such false information with the public, he will summon him to the committee for further actions.

Speaker Ndugai further stated that in April last year, when President John Magufuli was swearing-in judges for the High Court of Tanzania, he asked the Deputy CAG on the reported 1.5trn/- in the 2015/2016 report, which he denied, saying there were no missing budget funds.

The Kigoma Urban MP has frequently been posting falsehoods on his Instagram account, where in one of his posts he said - “TZS 1.5trn that is unaccounted for by government of Tanzania as observed by CAG report equals 22,000 kilometers of 10,000 bank notes. That is the distance from Dar to Cairo (Egypt), Cairo to Cape Town (South Africa) and back to Dar es Salaam. #WhereIs1point5Trn”.
