Speaking to journalists soon after submitting the report, CCM chief internal auditor, Stanislaus Manura said that the report contains all expenses used in last year’s general elections, refusing to divulge the actual amount spent.
Manura said that the party’s expenditure was in line with the rules and regulations governing the Election Expenses Act, 2010.
He said the election law requires a political party or candidate not to be spend more than the amount allowed by the government of not more than 17bn/- .
The CCM official further said that in the constituencies, there were candidates who exceeded the budget limit as required by the act.
Assistant Registrar, Election Expenses and Civil Education Unit, Piencia Kiure said June 25 this year is the deadline for parties to submit audited financial reports on the money spent in last year’s general elections.
The official said that so far only two political parties have submitted audited report. Kiure named the parties as ACT-Wazalendo and the ruling CCM.She called on parties which haven’t submitted their reports to do as soon as possible.
