Chinese minister to unveil Lighting African project in Dar es Salaam

A visiting Chinese Minister of International Development Song Tao is tomorrow expected to unveil the Lighting African project in Dar es Salaam.

Tanzania is the first African county where the project is being launched locally it will be implemented by the Tanzania -China Friendship Promotion Association.

Some of the notable people to attend the function include former prime minister Dr Salim Ahmed Salim, China deputy minister for international department who is also executive member of Communist party of China (CPC) Xu Lyuping, Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) top officials and others.

Speaking about the event, secretary general of Tanzania-China Friendship Promotion Association Joseph Kahama said under the project, China will provide umbrella shaped solar power equipment which are aimed at providing cost efficient and environmentally friendly solutions compared to other sources of energy.

He said that during the unveiling ceremony, the China Foundation for peace and development (CFPD) will provide 100 solar power equipment to Karagwe District in Kagera Region.

Kahama disclosed this when CFPD secretary general ambassador Xu Jianguo  and other officials visited former prime minister Dr Salim Ahmed Salim at his house.

“We thank the Chinese government and China Foundation for Peace and development for the solar power equipment, the solar power equipment will help rural people to uplift their lives, we are looking forward to more solar power equipment so as to help many people in the county," he said.

Ambassador Xu Jianguo thanked Dr Salim Ahmed Salim for his past and present contribution to the relationship between Tanzania and China and promised to continue working with Africa and Tanzania in particular for development.
