The team was received on Monday by Mbeya Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila and held talks in his office and said it should feel free to give such education as the region had not recorded a case of the pandemic.
He appealed to the wananchi in various areas to cooperate with the team as the awareness education was for their own benefit and the nation in general.
“The government is incurring great costs to fight the pandemic, hence it is now our responsibility to listen to the directives given and abide by them, hence it is essential it is accorder full cooperation,” Chalamila said.
The Health ministry’s head of water and environmental cleanliness department Anyitike Mwakitalima said in addition to educating the public, the team will distribute various items for the wananchi to use against covid-19 infections.
He said they are working together with the team of experts conducting the ‘Nyumba ni choo’ (House is the toilet) campaign that is mobilising wananchi to build better pit latrines to protect themselves from diseases.
“We are donating 150 litres of hand sanitizers for use by the wananchi in various areas in the region,” he said, adding that the campaign will be conducted nationwide.
Mrisho Mpoto, an artiste said the only way for Tanzanians to safeguard themselves against the pandemic is for them to wash their hands with soap and running water, and cautioned them against making humour out of the pandemic
On his part, Mbeya Regional Police Commander ACP Ulrich Matei thanked the health ministry for donating the items for the protection against covid-19 infections.
