Dawasa, Chiico sign water pact for Kisarawe District

WATER woes will soon be a story of the past for the 112-year-old Kisarawe’s District in Coast Region following the 11bn/- water project’s pact signed yesterday in the district.

The  Dar es Salaam Water and  Sewarage  Authority  (DAWASA) sealed the pact with China  Henan International  Cooperation Group  (CHIICO) to supply water from Upper  Ruvu via Kibamba area to Kisarawe township  in the Coast Region.

The  contract was signed by  the DAWASA  acting  chief executive officer, Romanus  Mwang’ingo and  the  Chico representative , Wang  Xiaogang during  a signing  ceremony held  at Kisarawe township.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Minister for Water and Irrigation, Eng. Isack Kamwele  and  the  Minister of  State , President’s Office., Regional Administration and Local Government,  Selemani Jafo  who is also the  Member  of Parliament (MP) for  Kisarawe  constituency in  the region.


Addressing  to the public , the Minister  for Water and Irrigation, Eng. Kamwele said  the contractor would lay  pipes from Kibamba area to  Kisarawe township   to implement President John Magufuli’s directive  he made June 22 last year to supply water to the Kisarawe District headquarters , Kisarawe township and its outskirts including the industrial area  from      Upper Ruvu  river  costing  10,849,788,087/-.


Eng. Kamwele  said that the construction of the   water project  would commence soon after the signing the contract and it would take 15 months  to be completed and  the contractor  will have 12 months more  for checking  and rectifying the project according to the contract.


The objective of the project is to supply 4,080,000 litres of water per day  to the township. The contractor would build a station  to pump water whereby four pumps machines would be  installed to insure water is pumped  daily.


Eng. Kamwele assured Kisarawe  township residents to get enough water supply after the completion  of the project. 


“ By 2020  I assure   you will get enough  safe and clean water  by 100 per cent from the river,” he said.


The Regional Commissioner, Ernest Ndikilo thanked the government    for the project and commended  DAWASA for fulfilling its promise to   supply water in the district.


“It is  historical day of the event to the people of Kisarawe  District.  Many years ago the district had no such  a project, it’s a dream come true to  the people, “ he said.


 MP ,Jafo  requested the Eng. Kamwele to supply water from Mlandizi to Maneromango via Mzenga and  to supply water from the river where a pipe is passing through in   any village  at least a distance of 12 kilometres away.

Also,  Member of  Parliament special seat, Zaynab Vulu also thanked the government for the project but further requested it to supply water to the nearby dispensaries and schools.


“We request  water to be supplied to the dispensaries and schools  even if by  introducing rain water harvest  system to these places in order to be assure of getting    get clean and safe water, ‘ she said.
