Dr Hussein Ally Mwinyi hails initiatives of the AfCFTA

​​​​​​​ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Ally Mwinyi has hailed initiatives  of  the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat to ensure countries work together in promoting trade.

Dr Mwinyi made the remarks yesterday at State House in Zanzibar when he held talks with the AfCFTA Executive Secretary Wamkele Mene who paid him a courtesy call.

Dr Mwinyi said during talks that he was confident that the initiatives being taken will help in reaching the targeted goals among countries under the agreement.

Dr Mwinyi was pleased to hear that the AfCFTA has issued special consideration to Isles like Zanzibar saying he was also confident with the successes recorded under the agreement.

He said Zanzibar government will work closely with countries under the agreement in strengthening its blue economy policy which is the direction of the economy.

Dr Mwinyi assured AfCFTA official that the isles government as well as that of the mainland will ensure that business strives but also make use of the available opportunities.

Dr Mwinyi said he will also ensure that entrepreneurs and traders are well informed of the AfCFTA so that they make use of opportunities to improve their businesses.

AfCFTA Secretary Executive Secretary Mene expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by Zanzibar saying the aim of the trip was to create awareness of the agreement to Members of Parlaiment of the United Republic of Tanzania as well as representatives of the House of Representatives in Zanzibar.

The official hailed Tanzania government for the steps it is taking in formalizing the   document since it was signed some time back.

He laid bare the opportunities available for small countries and islands in the agreement saying he was happy to see Zanzibar putting in place policies which will facilitate proper implementation of the agreement via the blue economy policy.

Apart from that, the official used the opportunity to explain to the Zanzibar president the strategies put in place by AfCFTA to its members as well as the successes that have been achieved.
