This is according to the 2016/17 to 2025/26 National Skills Development and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.
BEAR II project is a five-year joint initiative supported by UNESCO and the Republic of Korea which aims at improving the relevance, quality and perception of technical and vocational education training systems in five eastern African countries of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Madagascar.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Dr. Leonard Akwilapo made the remarks on Friday in Dar es Salaam when closing a three-day inception workshop of the BEAR II project.
The project was organised by UNESCO in line with the development of a first year detailed work plan for its implementation.
The workshop discussed skills development corresponding to three result areas of increasing the relevance of TVET to the needs of the economy; enhancing the quality of TVET delivered to trainees, and improving the perception of TVET among the youth and the society.
“This is work in progress and we all need to continue working together to make the BEAR II project a success,” he said.
Teeluck Bhuwanee, a UNESCO Coordinator, said the developed work plan expresses with great force the need to provide young people with adequate skills for work or skills for life and living together.
He said the inception of the phase has established the governance and management structures with which the project coordination and monitoring mechanisms will get into the implementation phase.
“At this stage, cooperation with focal point ministries such as agriculture, labour and youth becomes more crucial,” he said.
