Ex-Kinondoni mayor sails for new Ubungo post

The former Kinondoni Mayor Boniface Jacob (Chadema) has been voted unanimously by his party members to contest the mayoral post for Ubungo municipality.

In January, Jacob won the mayoral seat for the Kinondoni Municipal Council until it was dissolved earlier last week following the emerging of Ubungo district.

The changes have made the two districts to conduct by-elections for new mayoral positions.

Kinondoni Regional Secretary Henry Kileo told the press in Dar es Salaam yesterday that after the party’s internal meeting, Chadema members unanimously voted the former Kinondoni mayor Jacob to contest for the Ubungo mayoral post.

“Jacob had no competitor. He received a 100 percent vote from all party members who turned up for the exercise,” he said.

He said the Kinondoni Mayor’s seat was contested by three members in which Mustafa Muro was announced the winner to contest for the post as he obtained more than 50 percent of the vote.

Other aspirants who contested for the candidacy of the Kinondoni mayor post include Ndeshukurwa Tungaraza, who obtained six votes and Joel Mwakalebela who got two votes.

The names for the candidates would later be submitted to the party national committee for confirmation before the by-election takes place in the coming month.
