Four perish in Dar early morning accident

FOUR people died yesterday morning and another 29 were injured following a road accident along Mandela Expressway in Dar es Salaam.

The accident occurred when a commuter bus plying between Gongo la Mboto and Ubungo collided with two lorries d in head-on.

Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Simon Sirro confirmed the incident, saying it happened around 05:20 am at Tabata Matumbi area in Ilala District.

According to Sirro, the accident was caused by the driver of the a lorry with registration numbers T 447 DOH FAW, which was heading to Ubungo from Buguruni, who drove without taking caution and rammed into a commuter bus with registration number T629 CRT, which was heading to Gongo la Mboto.

He said that after the commuter bus was hit by the lorry it lost direction and collided with another lorry which was heading to Buguruni from Ubungo, causing the bus to overturn and killing four people on the spot.

The police chief said the driver of the commuter bus is among the dead, adding that those who have been injured were rushed to Amana hospital for treatment.

Police are searching for the drivers of the two lorries as investigations into the matter continue.
