Giles Muroto, Doroma Regional Police Commander confirmed the incident, saying the accident involved a Toyota Crown Athlete—T 619 DMA and a tanker.
According to RPC Muroto, the director was alone on his vehicle, which was heading to Kongwa District from the capital, Dodoma.
The regional police chief said that the director's car was damaged beyond recognition, making the task to retrieve the body of the deceased tough.
"We had to take the damaded vehicle to the Tanzania Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics Services Agency (TEMESA) to remove the body," he said.
His body was then taken to a mortuary at Dodoma Regional Hospital at around 4 pm.
Kongwa District Commissioner, Deogratius Ndejembi said the accident occurred during midnight when Eng Izengo was travelling from Dodoma to Kongwa.
“It was not an easy job, but we successfully managed to retrive his body with the assistance of soldiers from the National Service and the Tanzania Fire and Rescue Force.
According to Ndejembi, more details about the accident will be provided by the police force in Dodoma later today pending completion of investigation.
He said the late Eng Izengo was among honest public servants since helped the district to a qualified report in the recent report by the Controller and Auditor General (CAG).
Senior medical doctor, Dodoma Regional Hospital, Dr Caroline Damian confirmed to receive the body of Eng Izengo.
Kongwa District council chairman, White Zuberi said: We have lost an important person who contributed to the development of our district”.
Eng Izengo was appointed Kongwa DED by President John Magufuli in January, this year.
