Speaking to reporters, Mbeya Regional Police Commander SACP Ulrich Matei named the arrested suspects Masikitiko Pastoni aka ‘Mbuzi’ (34), Ezekia Sinkala (26) and Huruma Mwasile (36) all residents of Mtakuja, and Amani Mswima (21) a resident of Mlima Reli in Mbalizi town.
He said the suspects were nabbed on February 12, this year after the police conducted an operation in various areas of Mbalizi township within Mbeya district.
“We have interrogated them and they have confessed to have been involved in various criminal activities recently including the killing of the drivers, but we are conducting more investigations to know whether there are other criminals involved ,” said RPC Matei.
He said some of the criminal activities which the suspects had confessed included using sharp objects to kill a bodaboda driver named Zacharia Jackson (30) after which they robbed him of his motorcycle with Reg. MC149CFJ on December 20 last year.
He said another incident which the suspects confessed to is the killing of another bodaboda driver named Shukuru Juma (26) after which they robbed him of his motorcycle that occurred on February 10 this year.
Matei explained that in another incident, the suspects attacked a bodaboda driver named Sadock Nimrod (21) using a sharp object after which they ran away with his motor cycle.
He said in Mbeya region incidents of bodaboda thefts have been increasing. He cautioned other people who might be harbouring criminals to avoid such behaviour as the police is all ought to fight crimes.
