Mwanza Police hold 5 for allegedly killing 3 people

POLICE in Mwanza region are holding five people over deaths of three people from one family after which they dumped the bodies near River Jellys.

The killings happened on January 18 this year at Mecco around 11:39 pm in Ilemela district, Mwanza region after the suspected killers – Douglas Vincent (26) and his wife Hajira Thomas (24) allegedly conspired to commit murder.

Mwanza Regional Police Commander, Ramadhani Ng’anzi told reporters that those killed are Mary Charles (46), a business woman, a mother in the family, her daughter Jenifa Fredy (22) and Monica Jonas (19) a housemaid.

"The cause of the killing is said to be a business conflict between Mary (deceased) who used to bring   goods from Kigoma and gave to some of the suspects who later failed to pay her and allegedly conspired to murder her,” said RPC Ng'anzi.

He named the arrested suspects as Thomas Jilala (26), a push cart operator, Hajira Thomas (23), a tailor, Deoglas Vicent (31) shopkeeper of electrical goods, and Emmanuel Mathew (19) all Buhongwa residents in the city and Charles (36), a plant operator at Mwadui Mines, and resident of Mecco.   

"After interrogation, the suspects confessed to have committed the crime by striking her with a sharp object after which they made away with her three mobile phones.”

 He said other items they made away with included a mattress, two 18-in Singsung TV sets, two radios, gas cooker and a refrigerator.

RPC Ng'anzi said after receiving the report of the murder on January 19, the police started their investigation and by January 23 they arrested the suspects including various items of the deceased.

He said late Jenifa has a one-month old baby and was in the process of getting married to her fiancé.    

He said the police were hunting for more suspects who are still at large and all will appear in court after investigations had been completed.
