Retired Chief of the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces (TPDF) General George Waitara also says the 39bn/-airport will no doubt open up the region to more economic opportunities for those in the region and the country at large.
Speaking during the tour of the project at Nyabileza Village, Waitara who is also the chairperson of the Tanzania National Parks said the construction of the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year and that Tanzanians will start enjoying the fruits of the new facility.
He appealed to innovators in the neighbouring regions of Kigoma and Kagera to take advantage of the new airport and rebrand their products such as the historical buildings in the region and the Rusumo waterfalls which he said had the potential of attracting tourists and earning them revenue.
Geita regional Commissioner Eng Robert Majuzi who accompanied the chairman said the new facility will also provide tourists an opportunity to visit attraction sites such as the Rubondo Island National Park. Investors, he said should now seize the opportunity and also construct quality five star hotels that will be used by the tourists.
