Passengers cheat death in Singida bus accident

AT least 60 passengers cheated death after the bus they were travelling in overturned in Mkalama District, Singida Region, police said on Wednesday.

The accident involved a Wibonela bus with registration numbers T 974 CDB, which was heading to Dar es Salaam from Kahama District, Shinyanga Region.

Singida Regional Police Commander, Thobias Sedoyeka said the accident occurred on Tuesday at around 11am at Tumuli Village in Mkalama District, where ten people were seriouisly injured.

The RPC said the bus was manned by Mzamidu Ahmed (38), a resident of Geita, who is also nursing head injuries. Sedoyeka said that the accident was caused by over-speeding and at the time of the accident the road was slippery due to heavy rains that hit the area earlier.

The RPC identified those who were injured as Augustine Sylvester (22), Mariam Abubakari (20), Juma Simoni (27), Francis Abdul (22), Samson Luziga (24), Clement Aloyce (45), Rahimu Rashid (3), Lemi Mganda (25) and Bruno Ndelieli (40), all from Geita Region.

He further said that all those injured people were rushed to Singida Regional Hospital, noting that most of them were responding well to treatment.

He, however, said that passengers who survived the accident continued with their journey by using another bus. Due to the accident, Sedoyeka appealed to drivers and other road users to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid unnecessary accidents.
