PCCB recovers 33.5m/- from cooperative in Kili

THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Kilimanjaro region has recovered 33.57m/- from Mwika Kinyamvuo Amcos that had been pocketed by a handful of unethical business people.

PCCB director for Kilimanjaro region, Holle Makungu said in a statement on the bureau’s performance from July to September this year.

He said PCCB managed to recover the money through collaboration from the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies for Kilimanjaro region, John Henjewele.

According to Makungu, the suspects are three officials of Mwika Kinyamvuo Amcos who have been removed from office due to embezzlement of funds.

He said PCCB has mobilized itself well to ensure no more embezzlement of funds in cooperative societies and called on their members to continue reporting for any such instances so that those involved must be held accountable.

He said in three-months period PCCB in Kilimanjaro received tips of embezzlement of funds in various institutions with the number in brackets: education (5), police (4), councils (13), cooperatives (7), private (7), judiciary (2), political parties (1), parastatals (4), prisons (1) and health (1).

Makungu said in para 12 of CCM manifesto – the party called for quick and stern measures for all those who will be involved involve in corrupt practices.
