The plastic bags with the drugs were inside a freezer that usually carry a coffin.
Tanga Regional Police Commander Blasius Chatanda said the drugs (mirungi) were seized on January 12 this year at around 8.00pm at Manga Village, Mkata Ward, Handeni District.
He said the funeral hearse with Reg T 569 DSZ belonged to Dar es Salaam based Nuru Funeral Service.
“We arrester the hearse’s driver, Simon Tarimo (37), resident of Kimara area, Dar es Salaam. He was transporting the illicit drugs inside a freezer used to transport coffins.
Chatanda said the drugs were being transported from Usangi in Mwanga District in Kilimanjaro Region to Dar es Salaam.
