Soldier beats 61-year-old man to death over fowl theft accusations

A 61 year-old man, Bakari Rashid, a resident of Gumba village in Gwata ward in Kibaha district, Pwani region has died after being beaten to death by TPDF Soldier who accused him of fowl theft.

Pwani Police Commander, Wankyo Nyigesa, has confirmed the death of Bakari Rashid and added that the TPDF soldier is under police custody and a case has already been opened against him.

According to the Gumba Village Chairperson, Abdallah Changalapilo, the assailant admitted to beating the victim as a means to get information and names of the other theft accomplices and where they had kept the stolen fowls.

“At first, I thought maybe he must have found him in the fowl cage. However, after having a discussion with him I realised that the victim (Rashid) had not stolen the chicken but the accused was found by the soldier at a drum festival,” said Changalapilo.

The victim’s son, Dunia Said, stated that his father was beaten and forced to feed on cement, an occasion that contributed to his demise.
