Pwani Police Commander, Wankyo Nyigesa, has confirmed the death of Bakari Rashid and added that the TPDF soldier is under police custody and a case has already been opened against him.
According to the Gumba Village Chairperson, Abdallah Changalapilo, the assailant admitted to beating the victim as a means to get information and names of the other theft accomplices and where they had kept the stolen fowls.
“At first, I thought maybe he must have found him in the fowl cage. However, after having a discussion with him I realised that the victim (Rashid) had not stolen the chicken but the accused was found by the soldier at a drum festival,” said Changalapilo.
The victim’s son, Dunia Said, stated that his father was beaten and forced to feed on cement, an occasion that contributed to his demise.
