According to a statement released yesterday by HESLB executive director Abdul-Razaq Badru, the deadline extension is from July 15 to July 31.
“(This is) the new deadline for submitting online applications through our website,” Badru said, explaining that two other state agencies involved in facilitating the application process - the Tanzania Postal Corporation (TPC) and Registration Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency (RITA) – were also consulted over the new date.
TPC is responsible for distributing hard-copy HESLB application forms while RITA is responsible for verifying all birth and death certificates.
HESLB also gave August 14 as the deadline for sending the hard-copy application forms via the TPC-run EMS service.
“The decision has been made to ensure that applicants who do not complete the processes within the first deadline are accommodated,” the statement said.
Badru said last month that for the new academic year, the board will increase the number of loan beneficiaries to 40,000 new students pursuing various courses, up by 7,000 students from the previous year.
But diploma students will no longer be granted loan credit in the 2018/19 academic year. According to Badru, this is to allow for the entire 427.5 billion/- allocated to the board to benefit continuing students along with first-year students pursuing degree courses.
Only as recently as May this year, HESLB announced that it would widen opportunities for students pursuing diploma courses in various fields by allowing them to apply for loans during the 2018/19 academic year.
