Three arrested for armed robbery

POLICE Authorities in Mbeya region are holding three suspects accused of armed robbery.

In a statement released today, January 18, 2022, Acting Mbeya Police Commander, ACP Christina Musyani, mentioned the names of the accused as;- Msafiri (46) a resident of Usangu in Mbarali district, Boniface Shupa (36) a resident of Matundasi and Onesmo Bolisi Mwachawi (38) a resident of Makongolosi.

The statement highlighted that the suspects were arrested on January 15, 2022, at 23:45pm at the small town of Makongolosi in Chunya district during a police operation against criminals responsible for different crimes.  

During a police inspection, the suspects were found in possession of two guns, one pistol and one rifle that were made traditionally; 10 shotgun bullets, three mobile phones, one flashlight, one machete, two hats and two beanies that were used in different crimes.

It is said that the suspects were interrogated and admitted to committing two armed robberies including one committed on January 2, 2022 at 09:30 pm at matundasi where they broke-in and robbed a groceries shop owned by Andreas John (22) and stole Sh 1.1m and other assets worth Sh 5,490,000/- while injuring the victim’s wife Sarah Frank (21) a resident of matondo.  

Furthermore, on January 14, 2022, at 08pm they broke-in and robbed a shop located in Mnazi Mmoja in Chunya and stole Sh 1.9m, mobile phones and other goods. An investigation into the case is ongoing and after completion the suspects will be taken to court.
