TTB, Azam media sign deal to promote domestic tourism

THE Tanzania Tourism Board and Azam Media yesterday signed a one-year deal to broadcast a programme aimed at promoting domestic tourism.

TTB board chair Judge (rtd), Thomas Mihayo

The new programme dubbed: ‘Shangazwa’ has come to reality after a series of discussions between the two sides.

Speaking before the signing ceremony TTB board chair Judge (rtd) Thomas Mihayo said the agreement was reached after seeing what Azam media was doing in some of its programmes which are viewed in six East African countries.

“There is a programme aired by Azam TV which shows traditional dances, we have seen that this was a good platform as it shows the country's culture,” he said.

Judge Mihayo said the media has done a tremendous job a move that has made Tanzanians to visit local tourist destinations contrary to what was the norm in the past.

He gave an example of Christmas day where Tanzanians flocked Ngorongoro National Park and booked accommodation to an extent of filling all of them.

Judge Mihayo said TTB believed that the move will help in promoting domestic tourism especially in marketing destinations.

For his part, TTB acting Director General Felix John said they are prepared to market tourist destinations especially in the southern zone which has not been promoted enough.

He named some of the attractions as Ruaha National Park, Bi Kiyeuyeu, Nyerere, Old Zungwa and Mikumi.

For his part, Chief Executive Officer for AZAM media Tido Mhando said Shangazwa will be a new programme aimed at promoting tourism destinations.

“It will have mixed contents including traditional dances, wildlife showcasing and other famous tourist destinations in the country to make the world understand the culture but also the kind of attractions that Tanzania offers.
