World’s leading cement company to establish base in Tanzania

The World’s leading cement manufacturer CRH-PLC could soon establish a cement base in Tanzania if government negotiations with the multibillion company comes to fruition.

CRH is one of the world’s leading companies, specialising in building materials. The company has a business that spans 32 countries and which serves all segments of construction industry demand. CRH subsidiary companies employ over 85,000 people around 3,600 locations around the world.

Speaking during the CRH visit at the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) Executive Director Geoffrey Mwambe said Tanzania had become a popular destination for building materials investment and encouraged more world class companies to come and invest in the sector.

Noting that Tanzania had many ongoing projects such as the SGR and the ongoing construction of the Dodoma Stigler’s google project, Mwambe said these projects and many others coming up will increase demand for cement.

CRH official present said the company will undertake high level analysis of the construction sector in the country with special emphasis on the cement industry.

Currently, Tanzania’s largest cement producers are Tanga cement, Portland and Dangote.
