The minister was speaking at the weekend when he held discussions with the Isles Second Vice President Amb. Seif Ali Iddi when he visited his office for introduction after his recent appointment to the ministry.
He explained that despite the existence of environmental challenges, Zanzibar has made development strides including increase of the national income.
On environmental challenges, Zungu promised to appoint special experts on environmental issues to assess the environmental degradation in various parts of the Isles.
The minister pledged to plan a special visit to assess the environment situation in Zanzibar in collaboration with the Office of Zanzibar Second Vice President that deals with Union affairs and environment issues in the Isles.
In the discussions Amb Seif Ali Iddi said the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar had benefited the Isles to a large extent.
He said there are opportunities that benefit Zanzibaris living in the mainland and who have invested in business and agriculture.
