David Mfinanga, the UDSM Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), said that the marathon will cover 5km up to 21km events, and that registration fee will be 30,000/- and 10,000/- for students.
Mfinanga disclosed that the first five runners in both men and women categories will be awarded trophies.
He elaborated that winner and second-placed runner in the disabled athletes’ category will also receive awards while the rest, including the 5km runners, will each receive medals.
He said that registration process for the race can easily be done online by accessing the university’s marathon website and payments will be done using mobile phone money transaction service.
He disclosed the students' one stop center is a seven stores building looking at facilitating the university's nearly 34,000 students with recreational, creative, Information and Communication Technology and Sports Avenue.
He said the UDSM half marathon ‘s motto, namely 'Run With Us, Improve Students' Lives', is part of the varsity's efforts to bring together its alumni and raise funds for construction of the students’ one stop center to simplify learning life at the country's oldest university.
"UDSM half marathon is also a way of meeting with the UDSM's alumni, staff and students and it is a part of publicizing the institution the wider society," he added.
He disclosed the university invites the public to register for the half marathon for the future benefits of students.
