Azam FC heads to Zambia for friendly against TP Mazembe.

TANZANIA's Azam FC departs for Zambia today to confront Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) football giant, TP Mazembe, in an international friendly tie to be played at Levi Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola tommorrow.

Thabit Zacharia, Azam FC's information officer, said all is set for the match he described as important to his side ahead of its NBC Premier League matches and 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup.

The side is expected back home on Friday and will, next week, come up against Tanzania Prison in a Premier League clash at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.

Azam FC is set to, three days later, host Singida Big Stars at Azam Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

After the two domestic top flight ties, Azam FC will then travel to Tripoli, Libya to confront Al Akhdar in 2022/23 CAF CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round's first leg.

TP Mazembe, CAF Champions League winners on five occasions, are in Ndola for a series of friendly clashes.

Mazembe will use the friendly against Azam FC to shape up for 2022/23 CAF Champions League's second preliminary round encounter against Vipers SC of Uganda.

"All is set for our trip to Zambia, we are really delighted with TP Mazembe's invitation for the game, it is a litmus test to our side ahead of NBC Premier League games and international tournaments," he said.

The information officer also noted that the clash against TP Mazembe will help Azam FC's head coach Denis Lavagne assess some of his players who have been lacking playing time, impart his football philosophy and preferred brand of football.

"Our head coach has just joined the team, he did not have enough time to prepare his charges, impart his football philosophy, and his preferred brand of football so the game against TP Mazembe will help him in those aspects, the tie will also offer players who have been lacking playing time opportunity to show their competence," he said.

The official noted Azam FC youth team's goalkeepers Anthony Remy and Bravo Bakari are expected to be part of the trip as first choice nd second choice keepers respectively.

The move has come about as first team shot stoppers, Comoros national Ali Ahamada, has joined Comoros national squad, and his Tanzanian counterpart, Zubeir Foba had got call-up for Tanzania's national U-23 team now preparing for U-17 AFCON qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone.

French tactician Lavagne joined Azam FC three weeks ago and his first assignment in the 2022/23 NBC Premier League was a tie against the league's defending champion, Yanga, which took place at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and had the clubs locked to 2-2 draw.

His second match in charge was 1-0 win away to Mbeya City FC at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya, with Congolese forward Idris Mbombo scoring the winner for the visitors.

Under Lavagne, Azam FC has seemingly improved, the squad is now playing with more confidence, can control the pace of the game, build up play from the back, and attack systematically.
