BoT shine in Mwanza volleyball tournament

MWANZA Regional volleyball league’s defending champions, Bank of Tanzania (BoT) Club, has stretched its winning streak in the event posting two wins at the MTC venue in the region early this week.

BoT Club cruised to a 3-1 win over Magu in the opening match amid solid displays to register identical win over Ukerewe in the other game.

BoT Club’s women side also maintained their impressive spell to edge rivals, Baptist Volleyball Club (BVC) 3-2 in the tightly contested duel, which also turned out to be the day’s only match in the women category.

Magu men’s outfit rediscovered their winning formula on the subsequent day to trounce St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) 3-0 in the opening match.

The day’s second game saw Magu, who boast of, among others, experienced outside attacker Frank Mganga, command a 3-0 rout over Faru, who are making their debut appearance in the league.

Mwanza Regional Volleyball Association (Mwareva) official, Honorati Mayunga, said this weekend’s fixture was expected to be released yesterday.

The league is an annual feature organised by the body in a bid to improve the standard of the sport in the region,
The league also helps to secure teams that will take part in Tanzania Volleyball Association (TAVA)-organised National Club Championship.

This year’s league has seen Mwareva stepping up its efforts to promote the game by including youth outfits.
With the exception of SAUT, which is formed by students, participating outfits have been directed to field gender-balanced junior outfits.

Unlike the previous edition of the league, which saw participating teams lock horns in home and away games, all matches in this year’s league are taking place at the MTC venue, located on the outskirts of Mwanza city.
