Chinese basketball final thrills fans

CHINESE Construction Engineering firm, CCECC, basketball team has won this year’s tournament title after making the better out of CRJE in the final played at the National Indoor Stadium venue in Dar es Salaam on Sunday evening.

The event was staged to intensify cooperation and interaction of Chinese people and firms operating in Tanzania.

The outfits edged CRJE by 55-50 points to lift this year’s trophy with subsequent unbeaten run.

Sparkling CCECC sailed into the final with preliminary victories over CRJE 54-32, AVIC 67-33, ZTE69-37 before beating Chinese Embassy by 54-42 in the semi-final.

The opening quarter got underway at a cracking pace with either side keen to put up laudable performance to land the silverware. However, the winners powered through to a narrow 13-10 lead ahead of the subsequent quarter.

They continued to showcase a remarkable performance over their opponents commanding the lead by 20-10 points.

CRJE, however, were not ready to continue proving pushovers when they bounced back in the third quarter and went on to reduce the gap as they kept alive their title hopes high ahead of the decisive quarter. They handed their opponents a 19-9 loss.

The final quarter saw highly-determined CCECC emerge triumphant having staged final onslaught over their opponents to open a five-point gap as they won by 13-11 points.

The tournament’s organiser, who happens to be Stanbic Bank’s marketing manager Edmund Letan relished staging the tournament, saying it has been highly successful.

He noted that all teams had shown spirited commitment. He said hailed Chinese firms and people in Tanzania, the best of luck ahead of te nest edition.
