Simba SC lifted the domestic treble and a fourth straight league title last season.
However, despite a successful campaign, they have been very active in the transfer market.
At least eight players have been added to what is looking like a bloated squad. The club is in a pre-season camp in Morocco.
On Saturday, they played their first preseason friendly against AS FAR Rabat who are coached by their immediate former head coach Sven Vandenbroeck. The game ended 2-2
Speaking after the game, Gomes said he was impressed by the second-half comeback and also highlighted Hassan Dilunga, Yusuf Mhilu, and Duncan Nyoni for their good performance in the second half.
He urged for patience as he continued fine-tuning his squad.
“There were a lot of new players but like I said we lost 2-0 at half time but we came back in the second half. We can say it is not bad. We need to improve, progress and I can confidently say this squad can do better, much better.”
“We have to be patient. We are still preparing for the first official match. For sure, it will be completely different after two weeks. I am very confident and I trust my team. We are building a very strong team.”
“We did not play well in the first half, we lost too many balls. We were not committed when we lost the ball. This AS FAR team finished third in the Moroccan league, they caused us problems particularly between our two lines, the midfield and defensive lines.”
“After the first half, we found solutions to minimize the problems. The players in the second half were fresher, like Dilunga who had a good entry, Yusuf Mhilu, and Duncan Nyoni. It was interesting but just the beginning. We have to be very positive.”
