Dar boxers to clash on Sunday

DOMESTIC boxing enthusiasts will have opportunity to learn entrepreneurship skills a day before professional non-title bouts slated to take place in the city on Sunday.

Rajab Mhamila

Matchmaker, Rajab Mhamila, said the bouts’ organisers, Mambo Safi group, will oversee the event, which will take place after the weigh-in for boxers that will take part in the following day’s bouts.

The move, Mhamila disclosed, gears towards helping the boxing enthusiasts improve their well-being. Boxers who will take part in the bouts will also be among the recipients of the entrepreneurship skills.

Boxers that are expected to take the ring in the fights include Said Chino, who will face Haidar Mchanjo in a six-round Featherweight bout.

Chino was in extremely impressive form in his recent three non-title fights, in which he deservedly won to improve his record to eight victories, six of which came via knockout, three defeats and a draw.

He registered two knockout wins over Rajab Salum and Julius Jackson on August 27 and August 13, respectively, and beat Godfrey Silver by unanimous decision at the National Indoor Stadium in the city on August 21.

Chino is in the eighth position in the list of 54 boxers in Tanzania and has been positioned 479th in the list of 1,471 boxers in the Featherweight division by Boxrec.

Mchanjo was in equally good form in his previous three non-title bouts against domestic opponents, in which he won to bring his record to four wins, two of which came via knockout, and one loss.

He beat Karim Hamad by knockout in the city on July 7 and later beat Fadhil Chamile and Abdallah Zambe by points in other bouts that were also held in the city.

Mhamila said other fights involving established domestic professional boxers will see Mustafa Dotto take on Manyiissa, whereas Emilio Norfat will come up against Julius Jackson.

Norfat, who has been in impressive form in bouts against domestic boxers, will be under pressure to maintain uncompromising approach that has paid off against the latter.

Norfat will equally be seeking to improve his record after suffering a Technical Knockout (TKO) loss to South Africa’s XolisaniNdongeni in an international non-title bout in Eastern Cape on April 22.

In other bouts, Abdallah Luwanje will face ShadrackIgnas, Kassim Ahmed will fight Mohamed Muhunzi, Athuman Yanga will exchange blows with HashimChisora and Emmanuel Kisawani will confront EliksameMbwambo.

Chisora had been scheduled to take on Iddi Mkwela in the TPBC national Super Featherweight title in Dar es Salaam early this month but the fight was then called off by its promoter, who is also renowned domestic professional boxer Francis Cheka, who disclosed it will be held at a date he will announce later.
