Twelve teams from various primary schools in the city took part in the event, which aimed at celebrating sports' ability to unite people.

Bomba Mbili's coach, Sultani Kondo, expressed satisfaction over his team's performance, saying the latter were below par in the early stages but then improved and put impressive displays in the final.

"The youngsters' performance has improved tremendously... they didn't play well early on, they had no coordination but they improved their game in the semi-final and final," Kondo said.

He exuded confidence in the team's ability to go all the way and win the trophy in this year's Dar es Salaam regional junior hockey league, also played at the same venue.

Kondo also lauded efforts made by other participating teams' coaches in improving the performance of their respective outfits.

The outfits, comprising both boys and girls, were put into pools A and B and locked horns in the knockout format.
Pool A consisted of Bomba Mbili A, Amani A, Ukonga B, Kawe, Kigamboni and Juhudi, whereas pool B was made up of Bomba Mbili B, Ukonga A, Lugalo, Juhudi B, Bomba Mbili C and Amani B.

The presence of boys and girls in the outfits, organisers revealed, aimed at supporting the event's message, which targets the inclusion of people of either sex and from different cultural background.

Tanzania Hockey Association (THA) and Dar es Salaam Regional Hockey Association (DRHA) officials, as well as officials from the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) attended the event.

The Olympic Day was expected to climax yesterday, in which senior teams were scheduled to lock horns in five-a-side games.

The teams include Dar Institute, Juhudi, Kigamboni, Magereza, Makongo, Twende, Kibasila, University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) Dar es Salaam Stars and Tanzania People's Defense Forces (TPDF).
