Dodoma students showcase Chinese culture

UNIVERSITY of Dodoma (UDOM) showcased their skills in dancing and singing Chinese traditional songs in a festival that took place in Dodoma last weekend.

The festival, which geared towards celebrating the Chinese New Year, saw the university’s lecturers and students sing and dance Chinese songs.

Yung Lun, the Director of UDOM Confucius Institute, said the Chinese communities all over the world celebrate the Chinese New Year by hosting festivals.

Lun disclosed the event is an important occasion, given it brings them together.

He noted the festival’s activities including singing and dancing traditional songs, feasting on traditional dishes, and playing flutes.

He added the Chinese community celebrate the Chinese New Year every year by singing and dancing traditional songs.

Sasha Abubakary, who teaches at the university, disclosed students and lecturers have gained a lot from the Chinese given they have learnt the language, as well as skills in cooking Chinese traditional food.

Sasha added they have every reason to feel honoured to take part in the festival that helps them learn a lot of issues.

The university’s students, Sasha noted have got an opportunity to learn Chinese tradition, which will help them a lot in future.
