EATV organises artistes’ awards gala

East Africa Television (EATV) and radio have launched artistes’ awards which will be held in Dar es Salaam on December 10, it was announced yesterday.

Speaking, EATV director of marketing Roy Mbowe said the awards which will involve artistes from Kenya, Uganda and the country are sponsored by Vodacom Tanzania.

The objectives of organising the awards are to recognise and appreciate creative works done by artistes mainly in music and film.

He said the theme of the event which will be beamed live on EATV is ‘It’s your time and promised it will be very unique in the way the winners will be identified.Mbowe said they will use three ways to come up with winners and he named them as academy, judges and the public.

“As a television and radio, 80 percent of our consent involves arts, so we thought it wise to start the awards to honour our artistes. We believe the awards will also increase credibility of artistic works done by our artistes, we really thank Vodacom for being sponsors of the awards.

This will be very unique awards and we believe at the end of the day no one will complain or question on how winners were marked”, he said.

The EATV official said they will be categories for awards, but could not name them and the venue where the awards will be held, saying there are some discussions which are going on with other stakeholders.

On her remarks Vodacom head of marketing and communication Nandi Mwiyombella promised her company continued support to local artistes, saying her company believes that the awards will help to motivate artistes.

“Vodacom Tanzania is very committed in promoting talent, you know we are sponsors of Mainland premier league and also Dance Mia-Mia, we know that our sponsorship will motivate local artistes to be more creative, we also know that many young people in the modern world are using their artistic talent to earn a living. Let me assure you that Vodacom will continue supporting talent” she said.

Spokesperson of National Arts Council (BASATA) Aristides Kwizela thanked EATV for being in the fore front promoting talented artistes in the country.

He said the government is very happy with EATV’s initiative of promoting artistes and promised that BASATA will provide all necessary support to see that the awards are very successful.

“As the government we appreciate EATV for coming up with the awards and also Vodacom for being sponsors, we believe the awards will motivate our artistes to work hard and also use the awards as a stepping stone to scale greater heights”, he said.
