JATA keen on forming junior teams

TANZANIA Judo Association (JATA) has targeted to put in place junior teams for the sport with a view to raising the standard of the game in the country.

The association’s secretary general, Innocent Mallya, disclosed the body is keen on seeing to it there are junior teams which will make their presence felt in tournament that are organized by the body.

The official disclosed the national judo governing body will make full use of well-trained coaches to ensure every region in the country has a junior judo team.

The regional junior teams, he said, will produce players for the national team in future.

Mallya also disclosed the national judo squad’s preparations for the next year’s international competitions are going on smoothly.

He said JATA is keen on seeing to it the team qualifies for the 2020 Olympics, albeit there are many challenges frustrating the body’s efforts to achieve the feat.

He called on regional judo associations’ officials to host tournaments in their respective areas with a view to getting players that will take part in the coming national tournaments.
