JK Youth Park hosts hockey junior league today

BOMBA Mbili A hockey team will be out to maintain their impressive run in the Dar es Salaam regional junior league when they play two games at the Jakaya Kikwete Youth Park today.

Dar es Salaam Regional Hockey Association (DRHA) has organized the league involving primary schools from across the city in a bid to improve the standard of the sport.

Bomba Mbili A will open the day by playing Juhudi in pool A of the boys’ category and the former will then confront Ukonga B.

The pool will also see Ukonga B play Al Madrasa A, Juhudi locking horns with Kigamboni A and Jica playing Lugalo.
In pool B of the boys’ category, Bomba Mbili B will take on Ukonga A, with Mlimani facing Al Madrasa A and B outfits.

DRHA also organizes the senior league, which was expected to see a section of the participating teams lock horns at the same venue yesterday.

TPDF A, one of the tournament favourites in the men’s category, was expected to face Nia Njema Bagamoyo B in the first game and the army outfit was then set to play Dar Khalsa D.

Thrilling action was expected to be on show in the TPDF A versus Dar Khalsa D duel given that the two teams are currently engaging in an exciting title chase in pool B.

TPDF A leads the rest of the pack in the pool with 16 points from six games, winning five games and managing a draw in the remaining game.

Dar Khalsa D are in fourth position with 11 points from five games, winning three and managing draws in the remaining games.

With both sides boasting of unbeaten spells, the two teams’ defences will be under pressure to prove their worth in today’s game and that aspect stands to add more excitement in the duel.

Dar Institute, which is in fifth position in the pool, is scheduled to play Dar es Salaam Stars and Juhudi A the same day.
The day will also see Juhudi A face Makongo A, Nia Njema Bagamoyo B play University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and Dar Khalsa B locking horns with Kigamboni B.

UDSM, currently languishing at the bottom of the pool, are thereafter set to play Dar Khalsa B, while Makongo A will take on Dar Khalsa D, officials said.
