Four teams, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Eritrea, have pulled out reducing the tournament to eight teams.

The competition’s Local Organizing Committee has re-adjusted the tournament format by reducing it to two groups of four teams each.

In the revised format, there will be no quarterfinals’ stage as the two top teams from each group will now go to the semi-finals, slated for December 17, 2019.

Mainland Tanzania team, Kilimanjaro Stars, and Zanzibar will now battle it out with defending champions, Kenya, and Sudan in Group B.

The two Tanzania representatives will have to work very hard to clinch the top spots ahead of Kenya and Sudan.

The margin of error has been reduced with the scrapping off of the best loser’s ticket.

Kilimanjaro Stars will kick off their campaign against Kenya on Sunday and not Zanzibar Heroes, as earlier scheduled, while the latter will play against Sudan on the same day.

The much–anticipated clash between Kilimanjaro Stars and Zanzibar Heroes now comes up on Tuesday at Lugogo Stadium.

On Thursday, Kilimanjaro Stars will tackle Sudan also in the last group stage match, while Zanzibar Heroes will take on Kenya.

Group A is made up of hosts Uganda, Burundi, Somalia and Djibouti. The tournament has also been moved from Jinja and will now be played in Kampala.

The last tournament, staged in 2017, took place in Kenya, with the hosts ultimately winning the competition, beating Zanzibar 3-2 through penalty shootout.
