Mbabane Swallows hire coach Phiri for Simba tie

Mbabane Swallows from Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) have hired Malawi football legend Kinnah Phiri to be their head coach in their CAF match against Simba.

Simba are set to host Swallows in the preliminary round of the Africa Champions League, first leg match at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.

Sources from Swaziland affirmed that Swallows hired the Malawian tactician on grounds that he knows much about Tanzania soccer politics as he once coached the Mainland Premier league side, Mbeya City.

The team offered Malawi head coach a short-term contract, confirmed by Swallows’ general manager Sandile Zwane.

"We are hiring Kinnah on a short term basis to guide the team in the Africa tournament as our coach is serving a suspension," Zwane was yesterday quoted as declaring.

He said their coach Thabo Vilakati was suspended after reportedly attacking a ball boy.

Zwane said Kinnah has a lot of experience in football and would be a boost to Swallows.

Kinnah was fired as Malawi’s Flames coach alongside fellow legends, his former deputy Young Chimodzi and technical adviser, the late Jack 'Africa' Chamangwana in January 2013 and was then redeployed as a regional officer for the Malawi soccer federation.
