The teams attacked in turns throughout the opening half and had several good opportunities, only to be let down by inept finishing.

Mtibwa Sugar goalkeeper Shaaban Kado had to stay alert on the sixth minute to save a close range effort by African Lyon striker Benedict Jacob, as the visitors went in pursuit of an opener.

The visitors got a free kick outside the hosts' box on the 16th minute, skipper Jabir Aziz however could only blast wide.

Forward Riffat Hamisi wasted a glorious chance for Mtibwa Sugar on the 17th minute, unleashing a left foot shot that went off target after he had been released by fellow striker Jaffar Kibaya.

Winger Salum Kihimbwa blasted over from outside African Lyon's box on the 27th minute as Mtibwa Sugar sought to stay in control of the duel.

Kibaya then let go of a left foot shot from within African Lyon's area two minutes later, the attempt though went wide.

Mtibwa Sugar wasted another opportunity on the 34th minute as a left fot effort by striker Ayub Semtawa that had been released by fullback Salum Kanoni went over.

Kibaya outpaced African Lyon central defender Pato Ngonyani and sped into the latter's box on the 37th minute, the former though attempted a shot that went off target.

Semtawa could only manage a weak left foot effort from outside African Lyon's area two minutes before half time after he had been released by Kibaya.

African Lyon threw overboard a good opportunity during the added on time of the half as midfielder Ramadhan Chombo failed to slot the ball home off a good cross by Said Mtikila.

The first stanza came to an end with neither team having managed to score a goal.

Chombo netted the opener for African Lyon on the 61st minute, slotting the ball in from within Mtibwa Sugar's area after Mtikila had got the better of onrushing Kado.

Mtibwa Sugar technical bench brought in Harun Chanongo and Abdul Haule in place of Kihimbwa and Hamisi midway through the second stanza as the outfit sought to avoid defeat.

Mtibwa Sugar pressed upfront from time to time in the latter stages of the game, only to be frustrated by African Lyon defense marshalled by Omary Salum and Pato Ngonyani.

Kibaya levelled matters for Mtibwa Sugar during the added on time, heading home a well taken corner kick by left fullback, Issa Rashid.
