Namungo FC seeks intensive preps for ASFC final

THE 2020 Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) finalists, Namungo FC, have said they will step up preparations for the final, which will be held at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Sumbawanga, Rukwa.

The Lindi-based side reached the ASFC final on Saturday after beating First Division League (FDL) side, Sahare All Stars, 1-0 in an entertaining semi-final encounter which took place at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.

In a monitored interview, Namungo FC head coach, Thierry Hitimana, said he will make sure that his charges prepare well for the final.

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has yet to announce the date for the final.

He said one of his team's targets set for this year was booking a place in the ASFC final and if possible lift the trophy.

“We can do well in the final, what we want is to prepare well, reaching the final of ASFC was one of our targets which we set this year and I'm sure with better preparations we can be winners of this cup and represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup,” the soft spoken coach said.

Commenting on the game against Sahare All Stars, the Burundian tactician said it was a very difficult game for his side especially in the first half.

The hosts, he stated, were defending and attacking well in the opening half, but in the second half his side reorganized and scored the winning goal.

“It was not an easy game, our opponents played well, they did all they could in the first half, but in the second half we reorganized ourselves, came into the game with renewed energy and purpose which saw us score the goal, but I must say our opponents played well,” he said.

The coach said the focus now is on the remaining Premier League games where his squad aims finishing among top three teams.

The squad is currently placed fourth in the league table after posting 60 points.

Namungo, who are playing in the Premier League for the first time, scored their winning goal in the ASFC last four encounter through fullback Edward Manyama who netted on the 80th minute of the game.

To reach the semi-finals, Namungo FC beat Alliance FC 2-0 in the quarterfinals, whereas Sahare All Stars beat top flight squad Ndanda FC 4-3 in post-match penalties.
